The Joy Smith Foundation Inc. was launched on October 27, 2012 in Toronto, Ontario. Within just three months, the foundation presented its first cheque to a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) focused on rehabilitating victims of human trafficking. . Established as the first foundation to combat human trafficking in Canada, the Joy Smith Foundation has two objectives:
- raising awareness through education about the heinous crime of human trafficking present in our country; and,
- providing funds to support front-line organizations across Canada that rescue and rehabilitate victims of human trafficking.
The foundation’s corporate headquarters is in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The Joy Smith Foundation’s Board Members determine the allocation of funds to non-government organizations with their charitable status in Canada.
